In England recently three foreigners came to a bus stop. About 5 minutes later the bus they wanted came along. They prepared to board it. Suddenly there was a loud noise behind them. People rushed on to the bus and tried to push them out of the way. Someone shouted insulting remarks about foreigners. The bus conductor came rushing down the stairs to see what all the trouble was about. The three foreigners looked puzzled and embarrassed. No one had told them about the British custom of queuing for a bus so that the first person who arrived at a bus stop is the first person to get on the bus.Learning the language of a country isnt enough. If you want to have a pleasant visit, find out as much as possible about the manners and customs of your hosts. You will probably be surprised just how different they can be from your own. A visitor to India would do well to remember that people there consider it impolite to use the left hand for passing food at table. The left hand is supposed to be used for washing yourself. In Europe it is quite usual to cross your legs when sitting talking to someone. Doing this when meeting an important person in Thailand, however, could cause offense. Attitudes to women vary considerably around the world. In Japan, for example, it is quite usual for men to plan evening entertainments for themselves and leave their wives at home. In Europe such attitudes are disappearing.

A)    you can pass food with your left hand

B)    you can pass food with the help of your left hand

C)    youd better not pass food

Task 2

Directions: After reading the following passage, you will find 5 questions or unfinished statements, numbered 36 through 40. For each question or statement there are 4 choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should make the correct choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.

One silly question I simply cannot bear is How do you feel? Usually the question is asked of a man in action a man walking along the street, or busily working at his desk. So what do you expect him to say? Hell probably say, Fine, Im all right. But you have put a bug in his ear maybe now he is not sure. If you are his good friend, you may have seen something on his face, or in his walk, that he overlooked that morning. It makes him worrying a little.
